Why Adult Lessons at JMSS?

"I was afraid of the water for as long as I can remember. I just knew I would sink to the bottom and not be able to come up for air. Now I understand how wrong that was!"

Every year as the weather heats up, people in north Texas head to our numerous lakes, rivers and pools. Yet the unfortunate truth is that many of them do not know the basic swimming skills to safely enjoy these places. Every summer brings heartbreaking news reports of drownings of children, teens and adults; many are preventable.

Many adults seek swim lessons because their children are learning how to swim or their friends invite them to aquatic events; but they can't take part in the fun. Many factors influence adults' lack of swimming ability; lack of childhood lessons, fear of water, past experiences, even being told by parents not to go near it for fear of the danger. All of these can be overcome with the right instruction and time spent safely in the water.

Led by Olympic Gold Medalist Jim Montgomery, our adult swim program has an established track record of teaching adult beginners; guiding them through the steps to become confident in the water and able to use swimming for exercise and recreation. Since 2008, Coach Jim and his expertly trained staff have opened the doors for people to be safer while enjoying the water. Regardless of age or ability, it's never too late to start swimming!

"Thank you JMSS for teaching this grandma how to swim and enjoy the water again. Brenda A."
